Due to pressure from farmers and their associations, the Tobacco Board of India has revised the Andhra Pradesh production target.
The Board has decided to cap the authorised production at 150 million kg for the year 2006-07, as against the earlier decision of 129 million kg.
The board also decided to impose a penalty for excess production at the rate of Rp 1 per kilo since over-production would result in a fall in prices.
