Japan Tobacco (JT) announced today the results of its Japan Smoking Rate Survey, a study that has been carried out annually since 1965.
The survey, conducted in May 2007, showed that 26 per cent of Japanese adults are smokers. Among men, 40.2 per cent smoke, while the smoking incidence among women is 12.7 per cent. With 32.7 per cent, most Japanese smokers are in the 60+ age group.
The 2006 survey showed that the smoking rate of men was 41.3 per cent, the smoking rate of women was 12.4 per cent and total adult smoking rate was 26.3 per cent. (ci)
