Legislators in the state of Washington may impose a 75 per cent levy on e-cigarettes to raise taxation of the nicotine atomisers to a level comparable to cigars and chewing tobacco, according to The Bellingham Herald.
Products categorised as other tobacco products (OTPs) currently are subject to a 95 per cent excise tax, the amount originally proposed in House Bill 2795 for e-cigs and other tobacco substitutes. However the bill reported out by the House Finance Committee in a narrow 7-6 vote reduced the levy to 75 per cent, the newspaper said.
