There has been a 10 per cent increase in excise duty on all tobacco products in Singapore, Channel NewsAsia reported.
Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat announced that the government decided to increase the excise duty on all tobacco products to discourage tobacco consumption, during his Budget speech on 19 February.
The excise duty increase is in effect from 19 February. According to data retrieved from the Singapore Customs’ website, the tax on cigars, cheroots and cigarillos has increased from SGD 388 per kilo (EUR 238.2 per kilo) to SGD 427 per kilo (262.1 per kilo), Channel NewsAsia reported.
The excise duties on tobacco cigarettes and cigarettes with tobacco substitutes has increased by almost 43 cents for every gram of each stick.
