Authorities stop USD 58.4 mln E-cig smuggling job

07 Jan 2019. The custom authorities in China’s Zhejiang Province have arrested 27 people suspected of smuggling e-cigarette products valued at CNY 400 million (EUR 51 million) into China, Xinhaunet reported.

Customs seized over 470,000 cartons of cigarettes, 30,000 cartons and 500 sets of tobacco heating devices from the smugglers, according to the report.

One suspect, who carried 100,000 illegal cartons of cigarettes, told the authorities that a fellow accomplice bought cigarettes and devices in Japan and sent the illicit products as international packages to China, Xinhaunet reported. The sale of e-cigarettes is illegal in China.
