02 Sep 2008. On 31 May 2008, the UK government began a new consultation process on the future of tobacco control. While most of the proposed regulations have been trailed for some time, one suggestion came as a bit of a surprise: the potential introduction of plain packaging for cigarette packs, a proposition that could threaten profitability in the tobacco industry.
